The most improtant thing to do is practice jacking up and changing a tire in your drive way or storage area before hand so you are comfortable with the procedures and have the right tools when faced with a flat while towing.
If attached to the tow vehicle, apply the parking brakes, turn on the flasher, and put the transmission in Park (automatic) or 1st gear (manual)
